The Leang Bulu’ Sipong 4 cave paintings in South Sulawesi depict hunting scenes with figures of therianthropes, half-human, half-animal creatures, hunting anoa and babirusa. The paintings are around 48,000 years old and are considered to be among the oldest figurative art in the world. The paintings were found at the Leang Bulu’ Sipong 4 site, which is part of the Maros-Pangkep karst area. The paintings depict hunting scenes involving various creatures, including therianthropes, which are believed to be the embodiment of humans with animal elements. Some of the figures are depicted carrying spears or ropes, which were probably used for hunting.
